I am a pianist, organist and teacher based in Stafford. I was trained by Leon Forrester and May Walley in Newcastle-under-Lyme and Roger Fisher, then organist of Chester Cathedral. I studied music at Oxford and York, where I specialised in the history of Polish music, and have worked as a school music teacher at both primary and secondary level, a lecturer (Newcastle-under-Lyme College) and adviser in post-graduate studies at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. I was an instructor at the Staffordshire County Council’s School for Talented Young Musicians, and have performed regularly as solo pianist and harpsichordist, and as a member of the Chiarina Piano Trio.

My publications include full-length studies of the life and music of the Polish composers Karłowicz and Szymanowski, as well as numerous educational works. For some years I was principal examiner in A-level music with Edexcel.

I offer tuition in piano, organ and music theory to pupils of any age, whether beginners or those preparing for higher grades and diploma-level examinations. By drawing on a wide variety of musical works, I encourage pupils to develop not just their technical skills but also broadly-based tastes, enabling them to enjoy all sorts of music throughout their lives. Those who wish to can be trained and entered for examinations with the Associated Board or Trinity Guildhall. Beginners are recommended to take weekly lessons of thirty minutes, though very young children may find a shorter time better. Those preparing for higher grades will probably require forty-five minutes or an hour. Parents are welcome to attend. Fees charged are in line with findings from the yearly national surveys of the Incorporated Society of Musicians. Discounted rates are available for bookings of ten lessons paid in advance.
